What is Fu Ming D226?
Fu Ming (D226), also called Golden Bun, was first grown around Batu 13, Muar, Johor — which is exactly where its old field name comes from. Early growers called it D13, after the milestone marker on the road to Muar.
When the Department of Agriculture formally registered it, the variety received the official code D226 (also catalogued as Hock 13). The names Fu Ming (福明) and Golden Bun became the dominant market names, but the old code D13 still persists across Johor.
Flavour Profile
D226 is richer and more complex than most people expect from a so-called accessible variety. The flesh is bronze-gold to orange — deeper than a typical butter-yellow durian. The flavour is rich, sweet, and creamy, with a faint bittersweet finish and a distinctive hint of wine at the back of the palate.
The wine note in particular sets it apart from simpler sweet varieties. Brix reference 32–38%.
The Honest Case for D226
D226 is not a consolation prize — it is the home variety of Johor, grown and loved there for decades before Musang King became a national obsession.
More flesh, bigger fruit. Fruits typically run 2–4 kg with 35–45% flesh yield — among the better ratios across our range. Buying for a group? Golden Bun delivers more edible fruit per ringgit than most premium varieties. Because of its orange-bronze flesh, it is sometimes nicknamed "Johor Red Prawn" — though it is a completely different variety from the Penang D175.
At the Stall
We carry D226 Golden Bun from the same Bukit Serampang orchard as our premium varieties. The price is lower because the trees are more productive — not because the fruit is treated differently.
Sold by whole fruit weight, opened in front of you. Same-day harvest, no cold storage.
Honest note: The official code is D226 (Hock 13). If a price board still says "D13", that is the same variety — the historical field name from Batu 13.
